HOW TO DO IT
Sometimes, it's fun to break from our routines and do something silly. Especially, if the weather is too cold or too hot to play outdoors, and you're looking for a way to entertain the kids, and yourself.
So, we suggest a Backwards Day. What is that, you ask? Well just what it sounds like. Do everything backwards. Here are some suggestions:
First, discuss the whole idea with the kids. Write down your day's normal routine from morning until night. Have the kids contribute to the backward activities of the day by making suggestions about what to wear, what to do and what to eat.
Instead of serving breakfast food in the morning, have dinner instead. Soup and pizza are fun ideas.
If the kids normally take their baths at night, switch the order and give them baths in the morning.
Then, dress the kids in clean pajamas. You can dress in night clothes and a robe as well.
Now, cozy up and read bedtime stories.
At lunchtime, eat your meal backward. For instance, start with dessert and end with a sandwich.
Spend the afternoon doing normal activities backward and playing backward games. Some fun suggestions might include:
Pin the tail on the donkey's nose
Read a book from end to beginning
Write the alphabet or count backwards
Sit down to a yummy dinner of pancakes, waffles, eggs and NESTLÉ
Now it's time to get dressed. Select comfortable play clothes, but remember to put them on backwards!
Get the kids ready for bed – no pajamas, though, let them sleep in their play clothes.
Instead of that bedtime story, talk about what you did on this silly backwards day!
Remember, this day is all about having fun. Make it as silly and full of giggles as you can. Your kids will love it, and so will you!
